St. Paul, MN (February 3, 2021) — With experience in prototyping, production and assembly, Precise Products Corporation is dedicated to close tolerance precision machining.
Established in 1956, Precise Products has built off this customer satisfaction, meeting customer needs time after time through their wide range of capabilities. Using their high-quality equipment, they can meet their customers’ most difficult tolerance requirements with both short and long production runs.
As a company that has quality built into every production process, and engineers who are experts in their field, Precise Products can improve their customers manufacturing efficiencies without jeopardizing the integrity of the product.
The 100% employee-owned company located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, operates with one goal in mind: customer satisfaction.
CAMplete recently spoke with two of Precise Products’ employees, Jason Wennberg, Vice President of Engineering and Ward Wakefield, an engineer at Precise Products about their implementation of CAMplete TruePath as they moved into 5-axis machining.
Their first Matsuura Machine was a CUBLEX-25V, a 5-axis, complex machining center that Matsuura developed to address the issue of process integration.
In this machining center, turning and grinding functions are combined with five-axis milling functions, while maintaining 100 percent milling performance. With expandable ATC and APC options and the extensive process integration capabilities of the machine, high-speed, high-accuracy machining is possible, together with extended unmanned operation.
The Matsuura CUBLEX Series now includes the CUBLEX-35 and CUBLEX-63. The machines offer the ultimate level of process integration from milling, turning and grinding on one machine. The CUBLEX series enables high precision machining in unmanned operation, while providing cost reduction and one-chucking operation and eliminating errors from multiple setups.
Precise Products were able to get their first Matsuura up and running in less than a day with CAMplete TruePath, which is provided standard with every Matsuura 5-axis machine sold in the US.
When asked about their favorite feature of CAMplete TruePath, both had different things to share. For Ward, he noted the ability to provide true G-code simulation as opposed to what would be provided within a CAM System. When getting started with 5-axis toolpaths, mistakes can and do happen, Ward explained: “CAMplete Truepath catches all your collisions, machine time isn’t wasted just sitting there, it’s a gamechanger for us.”
When discussing this, Jason Wennberg interjected with a story rather than a specific feature:
“For me – there were a couple parts we did where we had a customer who was doing a very difficult part, they came in and wanted to see the tool paths that we would be using on a certain part. I was able to go into Gibbs and then optimize it in TruePath, and then I was able to show them the video rendering of what our plan was, and we were awarded the part because of that. Showing them that we were going to do it the correct way. The competitor of ours was doing more of 3+2 Programming on that feature but it needed to be simultaneous 5-axis. We hadn’t done much of that before that, by using TruePath we were able to see that it would work.”
Precise Products now runs another Matsuura, an MX-330 5-Axis Vertical Machining Center.
The MX-330, provides affordable and reliable unmanned 5-axis production. Delivering machining center versatility with a standard Matsuura-made high accuracy spindle of 15,000 RPM with 48 ft-lbs. of torque; optional 15,000 RPM with 88 ft-lbs. of torque and 20,000 RPM with 80 ft-lbs. of torque are available.
Ideal for the medical and aerospace industries and other high precision components, the MX-330 offers an easy transition from 3-Axis to 5-sided or 5-axis production. The MX-330 5-Axis Vertical Machining Center is excellent for small parts, but can handle parts up to ø13” X H11.8” and weighting up to 177 lbs.
The MX-330 is compactly built requiring floor space of only 6.1 ft. wide by 10 ft. long and ensures high-rigidity with a generous machining area and a table loading capacity of 177 lbs.
The machine’s maximum work envelope is D330 mm x H300 mm, with an optional D420 mm x H 300 mm. The MX-330 is designed with a RAM type structure, which offers a compact and highly durable machining platform. Available tool magazines include: standard 30 tool drum and optional 60 and 90 tool chains.
The MX-330 comes standard with a FANUC 31iMB with PANEL-I Control. The FANUC31iMB with PANEL-I Control is designed to be extremely user-friendly by making operating CNC machines easy and efficient.
