Robert C. Weisheit Company is a successful manufacturer of high-precision, close tolerance machined components for industries whose products and quality can have life or death implications.
The company, which was founded in 1946, employs ten Matsuura premium machine tools among it 55 total CNC machines in the manufacture of components made from difficult to machine materials, often consisting of complex geometries. Robert C. Weisheit Company is the low risk choice for their customers’ most critical requirements.
Located in Franklin Park, IL, Robert C. Weisheit Company offers 3, 4, and 5-Axis milling capabilities utilizing Matsuura premium machining centers, along with a full complement of precision CNC turning centers.
“Our Matsuura machining centers are the ultimate combination of precision and rigidity. These capabilities allow us to produce parts with complex geometries in fewer operations, thereby improving positional and dimensional accuracy,” said Robert C. Weisheit, President of the company.
A long-time Matsuura customer, Robert C. Weisheit Company purchased its first Matsuura premium machine tool in 1986.
The company most recently purchased the Matsuura MAM72-35V 5-Axis Vertical Machining Center in 2013. The purchase was initially to provide insurance for the backlog of jobs they were running on their Matsuura MAM72-25V 5-Axis Vertical Machining Center.
“One of the reasons for the purchase was my risk tolerance was overloaded. I had 5 to 6 months of backlog, while running three shifts of work a day on the MAM72-25V. Our backlog was out so far, we had months of fully booked orders and basically bought to insure we kept up with the demand,” Weisheit explained.
“However, that was only a part of the reason. We also wanted to be able to accept more high-quality, close tolerance jobs with larger parts. We were having such great success with the 10 pallets on the MAM72-25, it was proven our efficiency, spindle uptime, and part quality were all enhanced over non-pallet 3 and 4 axis machines,” Weisheit said.
The Matsuura MAM72-35 5-Axis Vertical Machining Center provided the company with 32 pallets, utilizing integrated multi-pallet technology and unmanned 5-Axis production.
Only five months after the company purchased the MAM72-35V in 2013, Weisheit was surprised when a repeat job came back at ten times more than what had been expected.
“I have a dozen or more jobs that repeat each year. One was for 500 parts, but the order came back at 5,000. It was a huge surprise to me,” Weisheit exclaimed.
Having the ability to produce these high-accuracy parts on the new MAM72-35 secured the order for the company.
“If I would not have purchased the machine, the order would have most likely been split up or dual-sourced. I probably would have gotten half the order, while my competition received the other half had I not bought the MAM72-35V,” Weisheit said.
The company is maximizing Matsuura’s flexibility and automation capabilities, including the multi-pallet systems the Matsuura MAM72-35V provides.
“During the day we run the high-mix, low-volume components which require more engineering and set-up. But, then we switch over to the unmanned production, where the pallets in the system run all night. Some companies promote that you can run three shifts, and it sounds good, but with Matsuuras you can,” Weisheit added.
Weisheit has been pleased with the service provided by local distributor, Yamazen, Inc.
“Installation of the MAM72-35 was expedient with very minor problems, which the distributor took care of right away,” Weisheit said.
“We continue to purchase Matsuuras primarily because of their high-accuracy and dependability. We bought our first Matsuura 28 years ago and it is still in service today. Matsuuras hold their ability year after year. We like our machines to last and we take care of them,” Weisheit said.
Weisheit often recommends Matsuura premium machine tools to others.
“Everyone knows that Matsuuras are a little more expensive, but when you compare to other brands, Matsuuras are worth the money. They are dependable and they hold their accuracy year after year,” Weisheit concluded.
